As most things in Guatemala revolve around children so does Carnival. The streets are filled with costumed children through out the day as all the schools march thru the town.

The tradition here is to smash eggs filled with confetti on each others head. Many of the older children skip the confetti part and smash fresh eggs on their victims heads shortly there after a hand full of flour to the head. Quite messy but it is all in fun.

2月28日はカーニバルの日。

親たちが思い思いに作った衣装を着て、子供達が街をパレードします。ジェイはもちろんアンパンマン！

目立つことが大嫌いなジェイは始終不機嫌のまま、約30分のパレードは終了。

幼稚園の敷地に帰って後も、コスチューム審査のため、校庭をぐるぐるダンスさせられてジェイはますます不機嫌に。

でもその後には、カーニバルにつき物の、タマゴ投げ遊びが始まって、これは相当楽しかったらしい。

タマゴは、中身を抜いて殻だけ乾燥させたのに着色して、中に紙ふぶきを詰めたもので、これを誰かれ構わず頭から掛けて周ります。

An architect friend of ours invited us to spend the weekend at one of the house he designed on the lake. So Mihoko and Jay set sail with his good buddy Noel on a luxury voyage. Daddy well Daddy had to stay in Panajachel and work

知り合いの別荘にジェイと2泊してきた。仕事の溜まっているジョンはひとりで家にお留守番。

一緒に泊まったのは、ジェイの大親友ノエルくんの家族4人と、ノエルくんのお兄ちゃんの友達。

午前中はボードで湖に乗り出し、敷地内の芝生で急斜面すべりをし、午後は近くの村まで散歩に行き、家の中ではゲームやらクッション投げやらをしての丸二日。

私たちの住んでいる街から、プライベート・ボートでたかが20分ほどで、この別天地！

ジェイが楽しかったことは、写真の笑顔からでもよーく分かるとおり。

The second of an out of order series of Amy and Rachel’s visit to Guatemala.

In this part our intrepid explores leave Lake Atitlan at sun rise in a mad dash to the former colonial capital of Spanish Central America. There they find ruined churches, fountains spraying water from interesting places, colonial houses, wax hearts and other body parts, gumball machines, pringles with strange messages, and the airport.

朝6時に自宅を出発し、アティトラン湖の朝焼けを眺めながら、世界遺産の古都アンティグアへ行く。

1773年に大地震により崩壊した、朽ち果てた教会などを散策。

エイミーたちはその足で空港へ。

空港でガチャガチャの機械を見つけたジェイは、エイミーからもらった小銭でスーパーボールを買って大満足。

アップの写真で写っている、鼻の下の黒いのは決して鼻クソではなくって、滑り台から顔で着地した際にできたカサブタです。

Yesterday we attended a fund raiser for a local school in Santa Cruz. What a great time. Tons of food, kids, friends and a boat ride. It was also an early carnival so all the kids were in costume.

Mihoko asked Jay what costume he wanted and he said “maybe Anpanman”. For those who do not know Anpanman is a Japanese cartoon character and Jay’s favorite. Kind of like superman but made out of bread. Of coarse Anpanman costumes are not just laying around here so Mihoko made one.

A great time was had by all. Jay did his first three legged race and even took 2nd place in the sack race. It was all just a warm up for the big Marti Grais celebration tomorrow.

カーニバルと銘打った、地元のインターナショナルスクールの基金パーティーに参加。

場所は湖をボートで15分ほど行った、サンタクルーズという村にあるホテルにて。

ジェイはアンパンマンの衣装で参加。もちろん周囲に誰も知る人もいないので、マントの背中にアンパンマンのアップリケを縫い付けておいた。

日曜の一日は、歌ありゲームありで、ジェイもわくわく！

麻袋に入ってぴょんぴょん飛ぶ徒競走では、大マケにまけて貰って2等賞を獲得！

大自慢の一日でした。

5日間という短い期間ながら、毎日盛りだくさんの日々。

空港でドーナツにむさぼりつき、バスに乗って民芸品市場へ行き、古都アンティグア観光をし、などなど。

Well I had to make some changes to make this more managable. First notice the more link. Click it and well get more. Also when you see the small pictures (after you click the “More Button”) click on them and kazam you will get bigger ones opening in a new window for your viewing pleasure.

I will be moving the furniture and fixing the site over the coming days. You can also leave comments if you like but it is not required. In addition I will be adding back all the photos you have already seen and new ones. We got a lot.
