Finally we took our first vacation in a little over a year to visit our friend Christina in San Cristóbal de las Casas. We had a great time. We even met Herbie.

本当に久々な家族旅行。
バスで８時間揺られ着いた先は、コロニアルな街並みも美しい、サン・クリストバル・デラス・カサスというメキシコ南部の街。

私たちの街にはないマクドナルドに行ったり、青色の綿菓子を食べたり、ジェイにとっても充実の一週間でした。

待ちきれなくて朝早く起きたジェイが見たものは、リビングにあふれんばかりの風船の山！ママたちが前の晩に2時間掛けて膨らませました。

毎年恒例になった我が家のホームパーティーに集まったのは、なんと子供が40人と大人60人！

顔にフェイスペインティングをしてもらって、風船ゲームをして、 アイスクリームの食べ放題に群がって、小さい子用と大きい子用に別々に用意した２つのピニャータをかち割って、60人前の特大ケーキと３つのチョコレートケーキを食べて、

・・・そうして、年に一度の大パーティーは終わりました。

60 adults, 40 kids, free ice cream and 25 pounds of fresh grilled sausage…oh my.

我が家の前に住むサンティアゴくんと、親友のノエルくんと、ジェイ。

同い年の3歳の男の子が三人もそろえば、もちろんこんな楽しいことはない！

早速木の枝を弓矢に見立てて、いざ魔女を倒すぞ！と、庭を走り回ります。

最初弓矢のつもりだった二本の枝は、太鼓のバチになり、釣竿にも変身し、その後老人の杖に変わり、最後にはパカパカ走る馬になりました。

Lucha libre, a Spanish phrase loosely translated into English as “free-style fighting,” is a genre of professional wrestling developed in Mexico. Masks have been used dating back to the mid-1930s . Early masks were very simple with basic colors to distinguish the wrestler.

In modern Lucha Libre, masks are colorfully designed to evoke the images of animals, gods, ancient heroes, and other archetypes, whose identity the Luchador takes on during a performance. Virtually all wrestlers in Mexico will start their careers wearing masks, but almost all will eventually be unmasked before the end of their careers.

メキシコのプロレス、 ルチャ・リブレが街にやってきた。

派手な衣装に身を包んだレスラーが繰り広げる 勧善懲悪のショーは、まさにメキシコ製の大衆娯楽って感じ。

初めて見る格闘技と大きなプロレスラーに、ジェイは目が点！でした。

An architect friend of ours invited us to spend the weekend at one of the house he designed on the lake. So Mihoko and Jay set sail with his good buddy Noel on a luxury voyage. Daddy well Daddy had to stay in Panajachel and work

知り合いの別荘にジェイと2泊してきた。仕事の溜まっているジョンはひとりで家にお留守番。

一緒に泊まったのは、ジェイの大親友ノエルくんの家族4人と、ノエルくんのお兄ちゃんの友達。

午前中はボードで湖に乗り出し、敷地内の芝生で急斜面すべりをし、午後は近くの村まで散歩に行き、家の中ではゲームやらクッション投げやらをしての丸二日。

私たちの住んでいる街から、プライベート・ボートでたかが20分ほどで、この別天地！

ジェイが楽しかったことは、写真の笑顔からでもよーく分かるとおり。
